Three quarters of a quarter of a century ago, something magnificent happened in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. Sensing a desperate public need for musical comedy, The Arrogant Worms was formed. The Arrogant Worms began as a comedy troupe performing songs and sketches on the campus radio station in 1991. As the live show developed, the songs delighted the audience. The sketches - not so much. It began as a hobby, making fun of a big dumb world. Luckily, the world is still dumb and The Arrogant Worms (Mike McCormick, Chris Patterson and Trevor Strong) still have plenty to sing about. The shows are fast, furious and family friendly. The wit is quick, the satire is biting and the musicianship is second to none. Their appeal has earned them fans from kids to parents to grandparents to Princess Leia. The Arrogant Worms have sold more than 150,000 copies of their 12 albums and played on three continents to crowds as large as 100,000. They were recognized in 2003 as the Touring Act of the Year by the Canadian Arts Presenters Association. The Worms have entertained at corporate functions, sung anthems at sporting events and emceed at major festivals. Their songs are in school lesson plans, in textbooks and even played on the Space Shuttle. On earth or in space, everyone digs these Worms. The Arrogant Worms are as comfortable on the radio or on camera as they are on stage Their energy and showmanship were captured on the DVD of their concert with the renowned Edmonton Symphony Orchestra. The DVD also features appearances by Worm pals figure skating champion Kurt Browning and actors Tom Cavanaugh (Ed, Love Monkey) and Nathan Fillion (Saving Private Ryan, Desperate Housewives). In recent years the Worms have been pleased to donate their time and talent to the cause of literacy in Canada through Frontier College and were awarded the Peter Gzowski Award for their efforts. So The Arrogant Worms will continue to provide tuneful and silly escapism for everyone who needs it. And if you think you don't need it, well you're wrong. You do. The Arrogant Worms know what's best for you and what's best for you is The Arrogant Worms
In 1973, "Painted Ladies" became an international hit for Ian. 30 years, a Juno award, 3 SOCAN classic awards, a handful of Juno nominations,15 albums and as many top 20 records later, he's still writing and recording successfully with his internationally acclaimed band, The Boomers. Ian's lyrics have been utilized in English text-books and many international artists have had success with Ian Thomas' songs such as Santana, America, Manfred Mann, Chicago, Bette Midler and Anne Murray. Aussie artist Daryl Braithwaite achieved number one down under for 5 weeks with an Ian Thomas song "As The Days Go By" and went top five with another, "All I Do" from the same album. Ian's songs have been licensed for television uses in programs such WKRP in Cincinnati, Baywatch, Degrassi High and Leap Years and in feature films such as Peter's Friends, The Philadelphia Experiment, First Born, and Strange Brew. Ian is also in demand as a film composer and has scored many feature films and TV Movies of the week. To help support his "music habit" Ian has done extensive voice work in cartoons (Ned's Nute, The Dumb Bunnies) and close to a thousand radio and television commercials as everything from the voice of Snap the Rice Crispy to the voice of the Ontario Lottery Corporation. His television appearances have included roles such as insane Scotsman Duncan McTavish on Supertown Challenge (comedy channel) and regular character Dougie Franklin for six years running on the Red Green Show (CBC/PBS). There are new challenges afoot with a screenplay, one completed novel, "Bequest" and another under way. Ian lives with his wife of 33 years in the Niagara wine region of Ontario because he likes both wine and his wife.

An American-born actor long in Canada, Jim Byrnes is best known for playing 'Lifeguard', the communications expert and link to the "organization" on the CBS series "Wiseguy" (1987-1990), and as Joe Dawson, one of the Watchers tracking the immortals on "Highlander" (syndicated, from 1993-98). A handsome man, often bearded, Byrnes lost both his legs when, while helping push a stalled truck on a highway, he was hit from behind by a car. After recuperating, he pursued work as a musician, which also led to the acting career for which he had once trained. Born and raised in St Louis, he grew up on the city's north side. As a teenager going to music clubs, he and his buddy were often the only white people in the place. "We never had any problems. We were too naïve, too innocent, and had too much respect for the music and the culture - they knew it, they could tell." Starting piano at age five, by age thirteen Jim was singing and playing blues guitar, and he continues to play on his favorite guitar, a Gibson 1969 Hummingbird. In addition to being a musician, acting always seemed to strike a chord, ever since he did Shakespeare in the Park in St. Louis when he was 15. He studied acting at Boston University and St. Louis University. In 1981 he formed the blues group, The Jim Byrnes Band, began playing dates throughout Canada, and has become a staple of the Vancouver music scene. The band has released three albums, "Burnin'", "I Turned My Nights Into Days" and "That River." In 1996, he won the Juno award for Best Blues/Gospel Album for "That River". He broke into the US TV market in 1987 acting in and singing a song he had written for the NBC miniseries "Hands of a Stranger". "Wiseguy", filmed in Vancouver, Canada, premiered later that year. In addition to acting, Jim has also done voices for the animated series "Dragon Warrior" (syndicated, 1990) and "Megaman" (syndicated, 1996), appeared in the short-lived syndicated series "Neon Rider" (1990) and performed blues songs on an episode of the HBO series "The Hitchhiker". He has co-starred in numerous TV movies, beginning with "The Red Spider" (CBS, 1988). He had strong moments playing a war veteran in the award-winning "Serving in Silence: The Margarethe Cammermeyer Story" (NBC, 1995) and reprised the role of Lifeguard for a "Wiseguy" reunion movie on ABC in 1996. In 1993, he was nominated for a Genie for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for his work in "Harmony Cats", and in 1996 won the Leo for Best Actor in a TV Drama for his work in Highlander. Jim's feature film work has been limited, although he earned good notices as a musician in "Harmony Cats" (1994) and is also recalled as a police lieutenant in "Under the Gun" (1995).

2009 was a watershed year for Lily Frost. Off the top, she received a Gemini nomination for the score, which she co-wrote, of the hit TV show "Being Erica." Lily also co-wrote the theme song "Everything I Ever Wanted to Be." (She will be appearing, as herself, in a second-season episode, and you know you've turned a certain corner, fame-wise, when you appear "as yourself" in anything.) To support the release of "Lily Swings," she toured all over Canada with her western swing band (called "The Debonairs" in honour of the late great Canadian underground legend Ray Condo), performing songs from the repertoire of Billie Holiday, to packed houses and standing ovations everywhere. 2009 also saw Lily expand her fan-base in France, embarking with a four-piece band on two sold-out tours in a year, drawing praise from French critics for her "mastery of ambiance," her "wide palette of emotion," and the powerful singing voice and strong personality of a woman who clearly "knows where she's going." Her last album, Cinemagique, also won rave reviews in France. Liberation praised the "alchemy, kaleidoscopic vision.and superb voice of Lily Frost." Comme Ca concurred, saying "this excellent album.shines with sensuality and charm." In the course of this eventful year, Lily and Jose (her collaborator and husband) poured their heart and souls into the making of her new disc, Viridian Torch-Lily's sixth solo disc.

The band has also been on tour in Taiwan and have most recently returned in March 2004.
There is a spotlight, a stage, and a band. The video lottery terminals flash, the bartender slams bottles, the voices of 500 people hum. Then J.P. Hoe steps to the microphone, and the world stops.
Well, almost. Outside, the Winnipeg wind batters snow against the doors. Headlights zip by, on their way to and from somewhere else. But in this space, on this night, all eyes, ears and minds are on the guy with the crooked smile, the smoky torch-song voice, and the guitar strapped to his chest. And you think, this man could start a war.
Ask the 2,500 people who, after seeing him open for Jann Arden on her 2007 Canadian tour, rushed the merch booth to buy his EP, The Live Beta Project. Ask the hundreds of Winnipeggers who turn out for his tongue-in-cheek theme gigs, like the perennially popular J.P. Hoe Hoe Hoe Holiday Show. Music legend Seymour Stein thinks J.P. would be huge in Asia. A Western Canadian Music Awards jury thought his full-length debut, The Dear John Letters, was one of the top pop recordings and top songwriting efforts, of 2008.
This is a songwriter who gets people talking. They talk, for instance, about his sound. It's hard to pin down. The melodies are always fluid, the lyrics clear-eyed. And of course, there's always J.P.'s voice, a classic instrument that rasps with weight beyond his years. But the songs... the songs run the gamut, from gentle to gregarious, and sometimes even down'n'dirty. There's the party-starting trumpets on songs like Start a War, the twangy strums of Safe and Sound, and the restless, breathless urgency of Simple Life. "You're kind of jazzy, kind of poppy," opined one man, who cornered J.P. in a Winnipeg steakhouse. "Pick a genre and you'll do good." A friend once compared J.P. to Bob Dylan, if Dylan wrote more love songs. All this from a guy who started playing guitar in high school because it was the best way for a shy kid to meet girls. He's come a long way since then. Since making his first, amateur recording while interning at a radio station outside of Paris, J.P. has become one of the most buzzworthy acts in Winnipeg's tight-knit scene. He's toured with Emm Gryner, been invited to record a CBC Canada Live concert, and filled performance slots at prestigious events such as the Winnipeg Folk Festival. One step forward, two steps back. As the first decade of the third millennium closes, the music industry is struggling to find its footing in a bold new technocracy. J.P. has felt the tremors too. It's tough out there to make ends meet, to find the right industry supports, to say sayonara to the day job and make music a living.
But J.P.'s fans are proof that his music can rise above the din.
What happens next? More music. More albums. More cross-Canada tours, more dates in cities like New York, Austin and Los Angeles, where he's wooed showcase crowds before. More sizzling shows with his deft backing band, the Truly Richards.
Beyond that? Any stage, and any sky is the limit for J.P. Hoe. Don't take our word for it: just watch him go.

Scott Doyle grew up in a small town of 500 people on the east coast of Newfoundland, Bay de Verde. Influenced by contemporary poets such as Leonard Cohen and Jim Morrison, he began writing poetry. His interest soon turned to songwriting and he began playing guitar at fourteen. Small town living in a community of hard working fishermen built a strong foundation for him and in years to come, he too would work hard labour jobs around southwestern Ontario such as construction, factory lines, and farming. Staying true to himself, he continued to write and went to school to study Recording Engineering. Upon completion of that course he realized that his true passion was to be a singer songwriter. Established in 1991, the Sim School of Highland Dance enrolls approximately 100 dancers ages of 3 to adult each year. The dancers hail from various towns throughout Southwestern Ontario and participate in classes at studios in Embro and St. Thomas. On a whole, the studio operates upon the basic principle of respect for others. Our dancers are encouraged to try their very best at all times and our success is attained through persistence and teamwork. I am very fortunate and proud to have a studio that upholds these ethics.
Ted was born and raised in Ingersoll and has been singing and entertaining as long as he can remember. He has sung in many groups such as Tower Line Road, Madrigal and Francis Street. For the past few years he has been performing solo, singing and playing acoustic guitar and has put out two CD's. The first was made up of all his father's favourite east coast and Irish ballads, and the second is a collection of his own writings. Ted finds inspiration in every day events such as weddings, anniversaries or special fund raisers and has put eleven of these together in a CD called Sketches. Ted has a special spot for Canadian veterans and his song "Red Petaled Flower" made its way to CBC Radio. The past year has found Ted working more often with his good friend Jim Gonder who plays a great piano and banjo.
According to author and folklorist, Roy Palmer, shepherds in Lincolnshire, England until very recent times, still used ancient Celtic numerals for counting their sheep. For instance, yan is one, tan is two and tethera is three. Tethera is also the collective name for a group of Cambridge and Kitchener On. musicians; Paul Morris (mandolin, vocals, concertina and melodeon) , Brad McEwen (citterns and vocals) and Brian Sinclair (mandocello and various other unique stringed instruments). Paul is one half of the English Music Hall duo County Vaudeville, and Brad and Brian have been in Nonesuch for years. Gwen Potter plays violin and viola and has recently moved to Canada from England. She is the most recent member of the band. Although Tethera means Three, and there are now four musicians, they have decided to keep the name because they like it! Brad McEwen is also the founder and Artistic Director of the Mill Race Folk Society. The repertoire consists of mainly traditional English dance tunes and songs, but other things have been known to creep in from Ireland, France, Brittany, Belgium and even Canada! They have been playing together in pub sessions for many years and bring the relaxed style of the informal session to the festival stage. Just close your eyes and imagine the ancient timbers of an old pub and a pint of English ale in front of you.
Tiffany Fewster has been dancing for 18 years, and teaching and choreographing for over 10. At the age of 15, she was a Canadian Step Dance Champion and also a Principal Dancer in the Mirvish Production of Needfire at the Royal Alexandra Theatre in Toronto. Her dance career has taken her many places and has introduced her to many great faces. When she is not performing or teaching, Tiffany now sells Real Estate full time for Century 21 Heritage House in Woodstock. She is very happy to be back at the Canterbury Folk Festival again this year and is thankful for the opportunity it gives her students to get out and perform in a relaxed atmosphere and also be so close to home (Woodstock). Tiffany learned to step dance in Ingersoll from Linda Waymouth, so this festival is near and dear to her roots. "Watching this festival grow every year is wonderful and I hope it keeps growing and we all keep dancing
Sarajayne Sweetland, the current Canadian Open Solo Step Dance Champion is delighted to return again this year to her home town folk festival. 2009-10 has been chalked full with amazing opportunities including performing with Canadian and US Fiddle Champion, Shane Cook and his talented colleagues, Jake Charron and Brian Pickell at both Canterbury Folk Festival and Owen Sound's "summerfolk". After Sarajayne's Labour Day Weekend first place finish at the legendary Pembroke Fiddle and Step Dance Championships she had the honor of performing in a Thanksgiving concert with the Kitchener -Waterloo Symphony Orchestra. Recently Sarajayne was invited back to perform in a St Patrick's Day Concert Series with the KW Symphony conducted by Nova Scotia's talented conductor, Mr Scott MacMillan and "The Rock's" accordionist extraordinaire, Mr.Bernard Felix. Sarajayne was able to travel to Belize for a three week missions trip this past christmas and was delighted to share her dancing with the village children. A missions trip to Africa calls her name this summer and she is confident her joy for dancing will be shared by the people across the sea.

Phil Arnold is the driving force behind Puppetworks. Founded in 1999, this puppet company has been experimenting and performing with puppets for over a decade. In addition to performances for adults and children, Puppetworks delivers workshops to elementary students in the Southwestern Ontario region. An actor and director for over thirty years, Phil started working with puppets while he was the owner/producer of the Old Factory Theatre in London (1998-2003). When the Old Factory closed in 2003, Phil started this new chapter of his life as a full-time puppeteer. "Puppetry is a near perfect and inclusive art form." A puppeteer often works in isolation but the trade-off for this lonely existence is the management of the artistic process from concept through script development to performance. Phil has been the President of the Ontario Puppetry Association since 2003. He performs in Canada and the USA and has been a regular performer at "Puppets Up!" Canada's largest international puppetry festival staged in Almonte, ON every August.
